Assessment and Grand Prix
The Theory Assessment takes place on the
morning of Event 9 of the Senshin Grand Prix,
with the competition taking place that
afternoon.
The Theory Assessment and Senshin Grand
Prix are separate events.
Students taking part in both must register
for each event individually using the
relevant booking form.
Assessment Standard
During the assessment, students are expected
to demonstrate an appropriate level of
understanding, knowledge and technical
proficiency for the grade they are working
towards.
This includes the relevant techniques,
terminology and principles contained in the
Irish Judo Association’s Grading
Syllabus.
Preparing to Grade
Not every element of the syllabus will
necessarily be covered during regular
classes. However, coaches will support
students preparing to grade and help them
develop the knowledge and techniques
required for their next grade.
Students should use the Irish Judo
Association’s Interactive Grading
Syllabus and ask their coaches for help
during regular classes if they are unsure
about any part of the syllabus.

Candidates are not expected to be perfect or
to know everything, but they are expected to
make a good effort to prepare properly before
attending a Theory Assessment.
What to Expect
Assessments are conducted in a supportive and
collaborative manner.
Examiners will provide guidance, help
students correct their techniques and give
every candidate a reasonable opportunity to
demonstrate the required standard.
Assessment Outcomes
There are three possible Theory Assessment
outcomes:
-
Grade Passed with Merit
-
Grade Passed
-
Grade Deferred
If a grade is deferred, the student will be
advised on what they need to improve and may
retake the assessment at the next available
event at no additional cost.
Please register only if you have been invited to
grade.
